1. Who can join the Basketball TV Academy
We're on the lookout for enthusiastic new crew members to help us capture the action this coming season.
Our crew is all about learning and growing and with the permission of their parents, we've had members as young as 14 join in on game days.
If you're passionate about storytelling and want to gain hands-on experience with broadcast kit, we'd love to hear from you.
2. How comprehensive is the training ?
Our training is comprehensive and hands-on, covering a wide range of roles and skills to help you launch your broadcast career. You'll have the opportunity to learn and work with various aspects of live TV production, including:
• Camera operation and techniques
• Sound engineering and mixing
• Switcher operation and live production
• Replay systems and highlight creation
• Build setup, cabling, and signal management
As part of our team, you'll be exposed to the entire production process and gain practical experience in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Our goal is to equip you with the skills, knowledge, and confidence for you to help us showcase quality basketball here in the UK and at the same time we want you to succeed in the broadcast industry.
With our comprehensive training and contacts, you'll be well-rounded and versatile, ready to take on a variety of roles and challenges in your future career.
3. What days of the week do you stream?
We typically stream basketball games on weekends, when most of our regular season and league matches take place. However, we also work with tournaments and other events during the week, so our streaming schedule can be flexible.
We're always excited to share the action with our audience, whether it's a weekend matchup or a mid-week tournament thriller!
4. I am in my third year studying TV and broadcast, is this for me?
That's awesome that you're studying broadcasting and gaining hands-on experience with studio cameras! Joining the TV Academy could be a great way to expand your skills into live event production and sports broadcasting.
Your experience with studio based cameras will actually translate well to our many different camera positions.
You'll have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and learn about the specifics of sports broadcasting.
We'd love to have you join our weekend stream team and apply your existing skills in a new and exciting context !
5. I don't want a career in broadcasting can I still help !
Absolutely! We welcome enthusiasts and hobbyists who want to join in on the fun and learn more about broadcasting.
You don't need to have a career goal in mind to be part of our team. We'd be happy to have you join us and learn the skills and techniques of live event production.
You can gain hands-on experience, meet like-minded people, and enjoy the thrill of capturing our live games. Think of it like a photography group, but with the excitement of live broadcasting!
We'll provide the training and support, and you can bring your enthusiasm and passion.
6. I am currently studying Sports Journalism, can I help?
A sports journalism background can be a perfect fit for our TV Academy team! Your skills in interviewing and pre-game research would be a huge asset as a sideline reporter.
You'd get to capture the excitement of the game, conduct exclusive interviews with coaches and players, and help bring the fans exclusive content.
We'd love to have you join our team and contribute your expertise to our broadcast
7. Will I be paid for my time ?
Good question. We are offering you the chance to shadow with seasoned crew and at the same time be a part of the production.
During your training sessions that take place in Reading your position will not be paid but in certain circumstances we can contribute towards your travel costs.
Once you have reached a certain standard in your chosen position you will be asked to assist on away games and these will be paid.
When working on tournaments and international games for us you will be paid BECTU broadcast rates for your position.
